Collecting high end sports memorabilia is back. And we can prove it. After its first auction ran for an enduring three month period from January to April, on April 25th 2009 at 10:30pm, after it remained open for an additional two and a half hours of bidding, Modern Marvels Auctions closed its bidding and to the collecting world revealed a new all time record price for the first and only Pristine Joe Montana 1981 Topps card graded a perfect 10 by BGS (Beckett Grading Service).
The final price realized an astounding $65,880 and the transaction was entirely completed this May. The card has traded hands a few times since its initial grading at last years national and this is the first time it was sold publicly in an auction. “Having the card in our possession was a thrill and we hand delivered it to our seller. It truly is the most perfect 1981 Topps Joe Montana RC I have ever seen,” company president and founder Dave Amerman explained about the card, “There was absolutely nothing wrong with the card to the naked eye and Beckett did an excellent job representing this card with a Pristine (10) grade.”
